THE SONSHIP MESSAGE #5- God’s Eternal Purpose in Christ Jesus

This is Part 5 in a series on THE SONSHIP MESSAGE that is hidden in the Holy Bible. 

GOD’S ETERNAL PURPOSE IN CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD  

In THE SONSHIP MESSAGE series, 4 lessons were already presented explaining; #1 Life is About God and Not About Us, #2 What Really Happened in the Garden of Eden, #3 Paul’s Gospel- the Hidden Mystery of Christ, #4 From Here to Eternity, From Earth to Glory. In this next series #5 God’s Eternal Purpose in Christ Jesus Our Lord will serve as a review and summary of God’s eternal plan for His sons and daughters that Paul said began before the world began: ‘According as (God) hath chosen us in (Christ) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love’ Ep1:4. God already knows who His sons and daughters are, but we need to find out if we are one of them by knowing, desiring and pursuing what He has for us- SONSHIP!

In lesson #1 Life Is All About God and Not About Us served to articulate God’s Sovereignty, that everything was created for His own pleasure and purpose Re4:11. While we all are included in God’s master plan, we all have a free will to choose to be blessed or not by Him. But God’s will will ultimately prevail- ‘thy will be done in earth as in heaven’ Mt6:10! For the past 6000 years man has had an abysmal record of corruption and violence in his rule over himself and his fellowmen. God will soon end this rule on earth and establish His 1000-year kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy under the lordship of Jesus Christ, and with his overcoming sons and daughters in authority Re1:6. Jesus said ‘he that overcometh.. shall rule the (nations) with a rod of iron’ Re2:26,27.

In lesson #2, What Really Happened In the Garden of Eden revealed how God jumpstarted his SONSHIP plan for man in the Garden of Eden. God knew Adam and Eve would fall into sin, that sin and death would be passed on to all of us Ro5:12, and that He also would have to pay a great price, his very life to redeem us from our sins Jn3:16. It spoke of why God was willing to pay such a great price to die for us. Besides saving us, it was for SONSHIP– so that He could have more sons and daughters like Jesus Christ, to give them a great inheritance Ep1:18, the glory that He has Jn17:5,22. In Gethsemane the night before his death, Jesus prayed for a specific group which he said God had given him Jn17:2,6,9,12,15,17,24. SONSHIP is that specific group Jesus referred to, that he would be glorified in Jn17:10, 2Th1:10.

Consider this very important fact: if Adam and Eve did not sin, we would not need a Savior, Jesus would not have come, and we would not have a Bible to tell about God and His eternal plan for us! NO SIN, NO SAVIOR, NO JESUS, NO BIBLE, NO KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, and NO SPECIAL PLAN FOR US! But God had everything planned out before the foundation of the world. Then God’s SONSHIP plan for man began with Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden of Eden!

In lesson #3 Paul’s Gospel- the Hidden Mystery of Christ showed how God chose a very unusual person 4000 years after Adam, a transformed persecutor and murderer to become a son like Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul was the 1st person to reveal the hidden secret of ‘the mystery of Christ’ Ep3:4, and the first to serve as an example to be ‘a pattern son like Jesus Christ’ 1Ti1:16. Paul said ‘be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Jesus Christ’ 1Co11:1. A careful study and understanding of Paul’s Gospel is required to know ‘the mystery of Christ’, and how God will ‘bring many sons unto glory’ Heb2:10. Paul’s Gospel reveals THE SONSHIP MESSAGE– the inheritance and glory that God intends to give to His sons and daughter one day for Eternity. Ep2:7 states ‘That in the AGES TO COME he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus’.

In lesson #4 From Here to Eternity, From Earth to Glory spoke of what happened in the garden of Eden, actually began eons ago when Lucifer rebelled in heaven for the Glory that God wants to give to His chosen sons and daughters one day. It spoke of the destiny of the sons of God- From Here to Eternity, From Earth to Glory- that they would inherit all things Re21:7, including God’s glory Jn17:5,22! Paul wrote ‘Faithful is He that calleth you, who also will do IT’ 1Th5:24, and ‘Being confident of this very thing, that He which hath begun a good work in you will perform IT until the day of Jesus Christ’ Php1:6. Who is HE and what is this IT?  God is HE, and IT means us becoming like Jesus Christ! God gave us His Word and Holy Spirit so that we could attain unto SONSHIP!

Lesson #5- God’s Eternal Purpose vs Temporal Purposes in Christ Jesus Our Lord

Besides God’s temporal purposes in sending Jesus, God had an ‘eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord’ Ep3:11. What is this eternal purpose that God has in mind? Every believer should know the answer to this very important question. Jesus last words on the Cross were ‘It is Finished’ Jn19:30. What Was Finished? Jesus came to do the will of the Father and ‘to finish His work’ Jn4:34. God’s temporal purposes of why Jesus was sent were finished! Jesus came to establish the kingdom of God on earth Mk1:15. He came to give us eternal life Jn3:15. Jesus came to redeem us from sin, sickness, death and hell. Jesus came to ‘destroy the works of the devil’ 1Jn3:8, and to defeat death, our last enemy 1Co15:26, 2Ti1:10. Through Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection, God fulfilled His plan and purpose for us. It is Finished!

But what is not Finished? Besides the need to still share the Gospel of Christ to a lost world Mk16:15, God is preparing a people unto Himself to be like Jesus, to rule and reign with Him for eternity. Thus, SONSHIP, the eternal purpose which God purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord, still continues in progress! THE SONSHIP MESSAGE also needs to be shared in order for more sons and daughters of God to come forth to receive their rightful inheritance before the close of this age. This inheritance is the glory Jesus now enjoys with the Father that He wants to give to us: ‘..that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints’ Ep1:18.

THE SONSHIP MESSAGE- God Already Knows Who Are His Sons and Daughters

God being Omniscient already knows who His sons and daughters are. But since we don’t know if we are in this SONSHIP group, to be included, we must know, desire and pursue this hidden ‘mystery of Christ’ Ep3:4,Co4:3. The apostle Paul defined who God’s sons and daughters are: ‘For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God’ Ro8:14. We must be led by the Holy Spirit to be a son or daughter, and  to receive our inheritance.

Paul wrote ‘to whom God would make known the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles which is Christ in you, the hope of Glory’ Co1:27. Paul said ‘..I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.. that I may win Christ.. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead..  I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus’ Php3:8-14. SONSHIP is the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus– for Paul and for us!  

God’s Eternal Plan- What Happened Before the World Began

God’s eternal plan is revealed in a number of scriptures regarding before the world began. Eons ago before Adam and Eve were created, Lucifer, aka Satan, and his angels rebelled against God. They were cast out of heaven down to earth Is14:12, Lk10:18, Re12:9, where they are now here to steal, kill, and destroy lives Jn10:10; subverting men’s souls to take as many to hell and the lake of fire with them Re20:10,15. Here are some scriptures regarding what happened before the world began:

Paul wrote ‘(God) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling.. according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began’ 2Ti1:9. Paul was given to know ‘the revelation of the mystery (of Christ), which was kept secret since the world began’ Ro16:25. Paul wrote ‘According as (God) hath chosen us in (Christ) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless..’ Ep1:4.  Jesus said ‘Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world’ Mt25:34. Jesus is ‘the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world’ Re13:8. Paul wrote we must enter into God’s rest for all God’s works were ‘finished from the foundation of the world’ Heb4:3. Peter said we were redeemed ‘with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.. foreordained before the foundation of the world..’ 1Pe1:19,20.

In short, All God’s work was already foreordained and finished, as Jesus was slain from the foundation of the world. God had already prepared a kingdom for us, and He chose us in Jesus Christ to be a holy people even before the world began. Also THE SONSHIP MESSAGE was kept secret since the world began until God used Paul to reveal it through his Gospel.

THE SONSHIP MESSAGE- God’s Good Pleasure in Jesus Christ and Toward Us

In order to be blessed by God, It is very important to know what His good pleasure is- in Jesus Christ and toward us. God’s good pleasure is revealed in a few verses, and we can gain much insights as we study them carefully. God created all things for His own pleasure Re4:11. Over 700 years before Jesus suffered and died, Isaiah prophesied ‘Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him (Jesus); he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand’ Is53:10. God planned to bruise Jesus to be an offering for our sins. Interestingly, God’s good pleasure was for Jesus to suffer and to be an example of SONSHIP for us. Paul wrote ‘For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth’ Heb12:6.

Also, God has ‘pleasure in the prosperity of his servant’ Ps35:27. He takes ‘pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy’ Ps147:11. Paul said ‘For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure’ Php2:13. Jesus said ‘..it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom’ Lk12:32. God’s good pleasure is to have more sons and daughters like Jesus Christ. Ep1:4,5 state ‘According as God hath chosen us in Christ.. that we should be holy.. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will’. Heb2:10 states ‘For it became (God) in bringing many sons unto glory..’. This is God’s good pleasure – to change us to come forth as His sons and daughters like Jesus Christ, to give us His kingdom and His glory! SONSHIP is all about God’s good pleasure toward and for us!

THE SONSHIP MESSAGE- God’s Love Revealed and Defined

The apostle John said ‘..God is Love’ 1Jn4:8. What is the breadth, length, depth, and height of God’s love for us Ep3:18? There are a few scriptures that reveal and describe this love. God’s love is revealed in Jn3:16: ‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life’. God loved us so much that He died for our sins. 1Jn3:1 states ‘Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God’. The manner of God’s love is described by calling us as His sons and daughters. Ep3:19 declares ‘.. to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God’. Ep4:13 adds ‘Till we all come ..unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ’. Putting all these verses together, the love of God and the love of Christ, they reveal that God want us to be like Him in all the fullness of Christ. Thus, God’s love is defined as us having all His fullness, to be like Him- SONSHIP!

Jesus said the scripture cannot be broken Jn10:35. This means that whatever was written in the Word of God shall surely come to pass. Jesus said ‘Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away’ Mt24:35. God gave us His Spirit so that we can become like Christ. Paul wrote ‘Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?’ 1Co3:16. God wants us to become like Jesus Christ in all His fullness! This is the nature of God’s love toward us: God wants sons and daughters to conform to the image of Jesus Christ Ro8:29, to give them everything Re21:7. THE SONSHIP MESSAGE is God’s love revealed and defined.

THE SONSHIP MESSAGE- God’s Eternal Purpose Which He Purposed in Christ Jesus Our Lord

Finally, God wants us to know about SONSHIP– about His desire for more sons and daughters. The prophet Isaiah wrote of the unveiling of the sons of God Is45:11: ‘Thus saith the LORD.. Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me’. Isaiah said  ‘ARISE, SHINE; for thy light is come, and the Glory of the LORD is risen upon thee’ Is60:1.  Peter said ‘If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of Glory and of God resteth upon you’ 1Pe4:14. Paul wrote ‘For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God’ Ro8:19,21.

Since creation after Adam and Eve fell, the earth continues in the bondage of corruption and sin, and it yearns for deliverance into the glorious liberty of the sons and daughters of God. From the beginning of time, it was all in God’s plan to raise up his sons & daughters unto Glory. So at the closing of this age, God’s sons and daughters will be manifested to bring deliverance to this world, and for the ages to come, God ‘might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus’ Ep2:7. This is THE SONSHIP MESSAGE: SONSHIP is ‘the Eternal Purpose Which God Purposed in Christ Jesus Our Lord’ Ep3:11. AMEN!

Note: In the New Testament, the Greek word for ‘Glory’ is Doxa (dox-ah). It means ‘dignity, glorious, honour, praise, worship’. Doxa is used to describe the Glory of God as in Ro15:7, the Glory Jesus enjoys with the Father Jn17:5, and the Glory Jesus wants to give to us Jn17:22. This Glory is the same Doxa that God wants to give to us as mentioned in Co1:27, Heb2:10, and in many other verses such as Ro8:18, 2Co3:18, Ep1:18, 2Th2:14, 1Pe1:7,8, 1Pe5:1,4. This is the Doxa that God wants His chosen sons and daughters to have!
