When the young man Jesus arrived on the scene 2000 years ago in Judaea and Jerusalem, He changed the entire world’s view about life and about Himself, by what He said, what He did, and by what happened to Him. As we recently commemorated His passion and celebrated His resurrection from the dead, it is highly appropriate to consider The Greatness of Jesus Christ. In the annals of mankind, there was no man living with greater majesty, nobility, compassion, wisdom, foresight, power, and humility than that of Jesus Christ. Though Jesus spent only 33 years on Earth, He did so many great things that the apostle John hyperbolized ‘..there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be writtenJn21:25.

From the New Testament, we learn of the progressive revelation of Jesus Christ, who He is, what He said and did, what others said and did on his behalf, and of the importance of knowing Jesus Christ as ‘God Our Saviour’. He came to save us from our sins Mt1:21. Before leaving Earth, Jesus saidALL POWER is given unto me in heaven and in Earth’ Mt28:18. This paper is a reminder of JESUS’ GREATNESS, and hopefully, gives fresh revelations and appreciation of THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRIST- THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE, OUR SAVIOUR GOD! Also if anyone rejects JESUS AS THEIR SAVIOUR GOD, he will be doomed to spend eternity in HELL and everlasting fire!

The Greatness Of Jesus Christ- HOW GREAT THOU ART

The song How Great Thou Art powerfully epitomized THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRISTOUR CREATOR and SAVIOUR GOD!

O LORD MY GOD, When I in awesome wonder, Consider all the worlds THY HANDS have madeI see the stars, I hear the rolling thunderTHY POWER throughout the UNIVERSE displayed.

And when I think of God, His Son not sparingSent Him to die, I scarce can take it inThat on the Cross, my burden gladly bearingHe bled and died to take away my sin.

When CHRIST shall come, with shout of acclamationAnd take me home, what joy shall fill my heartThen I shall bow, in humble adorationAnd then proclaim: MY GOD, HOW GREAT THOU ART!

Refrain..  Then sings my soul, MY SAVIOUR GOD, to Thee, HOW GREAT THOU ART, HOW GREAT THOU ART.  Then sings my soul, MY SAVIOUR GOD, to TheeHOW GREAT THOU ART, HOW GREAT THOU ART!      ♫

How Great Thou Art is a Christian hymn composed by Carl Gustav Boberg (1859-1940) in Sweden in 1885, the melody, a Swedish folk song. British missionary Stuart K. Hine added two verses of his own. How Great Thou Art was popularized by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows, sung during Billy Graham crusades, and it has become a spiritual hymn standard to millions all over the world. The song succinctly expressed in a few words, the glory and majesty of Jesus Christ, OUR CREATOR and SAVIOUR GOD, dying on the Cross for our sins! This song also speaks of a forthcoming Rapture of believers to heaven– ‘When CHRIST shall come.. And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart’.

The genealogy of Jesus Christ is found in all of the four gospels of the New Testament. They each introduced Jesus in different ways, telling us who he is, and whom he descended from. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus was revealed as a Jewthe son of David, and of Abraham Mt1:1. In Mark, Jesus was proclaimed the Son of God Mk1:1. In Luke, Jesus was described as the son of Adam, which was a the son of God’  Lk3:38. In John’s Gospel, Jesus was introduced as God, the Word Jn1:1, and the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us Jn1:14! God came to Earth in the person of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago, when Jesus was conceived sinless and supernaturally in Mary, by the Holy Ghost Mt1:20. From the four gospels, Jesus is revealed to us as the son of David, and of Abraham, the Son of God, the son of Adam, and the Word of God made flesh!

The Greatness of Jesus Christ- GOD IN THE FLESH

John’s Gospel gives us a very clear picture of who Jesus Christ is, GOD IN THE FLESH! By inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the apostle John told us what happened from the very beginning of time, who God is, where He came from, and why He came to earth. John gave an account of WHEN DIVINITY BECAME HUMANITYWHEN GOD BECAME MAN! John wrote In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. ALL THINGS were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.. And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH, and dwelt among us..’ Jn1:1-4,14.

From the verses above, we see that JESUS, THE WORD OF GOD was with God in the beginning, that He was God, and that He was the Creator of ALL THINGS, and that nothing existed without Him. Jesus said Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, BELIEVE ALSO IN ME Jn14:1, and I am the way, the truth, and the life: No Man Cometh Unto The Father, But By Me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen himJn14:6,7. Here Jesus told His disciples that if they believe in God, they should also believe in Him, and that He was the only way to God the Father. Jesus said, if you know Him, you should have known and seen the Father also! Jesus declared I and my Father are One Jn10:30.

Paul wrote And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: GOD WAS MANIFEST IN THE FLESH, justified in the Spirit..’1Ti3:16. Paul said that in ALL THINGS (JESUS) might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in (JESUS) should ALL FULNESS DWELL’ Co1:18,19. If we know JESUS, we know the Father! If we see JESUS, we see the Father! From this perspective, we can see that THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRIST IS THE GREATNESS OF GOD THE FATHER HIMSELF; that JESUS IS GOD HIMSELF!

The Greatness of Jesus Christ- THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS

The Greatness of Jesus Christ cannot be fully appreciated without understanding that Jesus Christ is the Creator of everything. Seldom is it spoken or written of the role of Jesus Christ as THE CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE, the creator of ALL THINGS, and the source of ALL Life. But this revelation is found in several places in the Holy Bible. John wrote ‘..ALL THINGS were made by (JESUS); and without him was not any thing made that was made. In (JESUS) was life, and the life was the light of menJn1:3,4.

The Holy Spirit also used the apostle Paul to reveal Jesus Christ and to describe His glory. Paul wrote GodHath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of ALL THINGS, by (JESUS) also he made the worlds and JESUS is ‘..the brightness of God’s GLORY, and the express image of God’s person, and upholding ALL THINGS by the word of his power..’ He1:2,3. Paul basically stated that there is no brighter GLORY  and higher description of God than that of JESUS CHRIST.

Paul wrote (JESUS) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by (JESUS) were ALL THINGS created, that are in heaven.. that are in Earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: ALL THINGS were created by him, and for himCo1:15,16. Paul saidWherefore God also hath highly exalted (JESUS), and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in ..and under the Earth; And that every tongue should confess that JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, to the glory of God the Father Php2:9-11. Co2:9 states For in (JESUS) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. There is no higher or more honorable name in all THE UNIVERSE than that of JESUS! JESUS CHRIST IS OUR CREATOR GOD.

What is the Universe, how old and how large is it, and how many planets, stars, and galaxies does it contain? The Universe is everything in the heavens that surrounds our planet Earth. Ge1:1 states In the beginning God created the heaven and the Earth. Scriptures declared that Jesus is the Creator of the Universe ‘ whom (Jesus) also he made the WORLDS’ He1:2; that ‘.. ALL THINGS were made by (Jesus); and without (Jesus) was not any thing made that was made.. Jn1:3. Jesus upholds ‘.. ALL THINGS by the word of his powerHe1:3. JESUS, THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE, by His awesome power, upholds ALL THINGS, such that nothing collides and crashes, but everything remains in their proper order, rotation, and orbit.

Astronomers probe the Universe daily, using mega-telescopes in pristine mountain locations, to scan and study the night skies. Vast information has been gathered since the 20th century with great advancement in telemetry, satellites, and computers. One great advancement was the 1990 launching of the Hubble Space Telescope in a low-earth orbit. Still in operation today, the Hubble telescope is discovering new planets, stars, and galaxies, and sending spectacular and beautiful pictures of the outer reaches of our Universe, never seen before. Scientists place the Universe at about 14 billion years old, and the Earth, 4.5 billion years.

Since the Universe is still expanding, its size may be infinite. Presently, it has a radius of about 46 billion light-years, a light-year is a distance equal to about 5.9 trillion miles. In the Universe, there are innumerable planets, and over 100 million galaxies, with over 300 sextillion (3×1023) stars. Our Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are in the Milky Way Galaxy, roughly 100,000 light-years in diameter. The distance from the Earth to the Moon is only 235,000 miles, and to the Sun, 93 million miles. Our Sun is so large that about 1.3 million earths could fit in it, with temperatures over 5600° C. But our Sun is small relative to many other stars; the largest known star being 2600 times greater. (Source- Wikipedia)

Our Universe is held together in perfect balance by THE WORD OF JESUS’ POWER He1:3. If the Earth was much further away, or closer in its annual orbit around the Sun, we would either freeze or roast to death. Also, the  Moon beside giving us light at night, its gravitational pull controls the tides in the oceans such that beaches and harbors would not have extreme tidal changes, and keeps the Earth from wobbling in its daily and annual rotation around the Sun. Though the Earth is 4.5 billion years old, man’s time on it has been very short, being only about 6000 years from Adam to us today.

So why did Jesus so long ago put so many stars in the heavens, and made the Universe so vast with all its energy, power, and glory, and for what purpose? Ecc3:1 states To every thing there is a season, and A Time To Every Purpose Under The Heaven. 1Co2:9 states Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for Them That Love Him..’. Since God is Almighty and very purposeful, He has a great Eternal Plan and a great Inheritance and the Universe but yet not revealed, for all those that love Him. Ep1:11 states ‘In whom (Jesus) also we have obtained an Inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him (God) who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will’Hopefully, this brief discussion will give everyone an appreciation of THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRIST– THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE!

King David, the Psalmist, Proclaimed THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRIST

Long before Jesus appeared on the Earth, David the Palmist by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, proclaimed the Greatness of Jesus Christ, its Creator and the beauty of the Universe. David exclaimed O LORD our Lord (Jesus), how excellent is thy name (Jesus) in all the Earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the Moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man (us), that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man (Jesus), that thou (Jesus) visitest him (us)?’ Ps8:1-4. David wroteThe heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the Sun.. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereofPs19:1-6.

David exultedBe thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the Earth Ps57:11; The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens Ps113:4; By THE WORD OF THE LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouthPs33:6. JESUS, THE WORD OF GOD, spoke the UNIVERSE & all the WORLDS into existence Genesis Chapter 1!

The ultimate measure of the Greatness of Jesus Christ is HIS GREAT LOVE FOR US, as revealed by what He said:GREATER LOVE hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friendsJn15:13. Jesus Christ, the personification of God’s Love, became OUR SAVIOUR GOD by dying for us. The New Testament progressively revealed Jesus’ love for us. Jn3:16,17 state For GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Who spoke these words? Was it John the Baptist, the apostle John or Paul, or someone else that uttered these very powerful words? And who were they spoken to- the 12 disciples, the vast multitude, or someone else? When querying people with these questions, only a few could give the correct answers. It was JESUS who spoke in the 3rd person of Himself, and just to one individualNICODEMUS, a Pharisees and ruler of the Jews, who came secretly by night to inquire of Jesus Jn3:1,2.

Paul later wrote ‘ know the LOVE OF CHRIST, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God Ep3:19; and the apostle John, ‘Behold, what manner of LOVE THE FATHER hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the Sons of God..’ 1Jn3:1. These four scriptures above on LOVE reveals JESUS’ GREAT LOVE for us: Jesus gave his life to save us; His desire is for us to be like Him in all God’s fullness, and that we should be called the Sons of God, to be like Him. Jesus made all of this possible for us to one day become like Him (SONSHIP), and so that we can inherit All THINGS Re21:7! By JESUSGREAT LOVE, coming into this world to die for our sins, it reveals THE GREATNESS OF JESUS CHRIST- THE MASTER OF THE UNIVERSE, OUR SAVIOUR GOD

The Greatness of Jesus Christ- WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT JESUS?

Finally, the Bible declares The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the HOLY is understanding‘ Pr9:10. We are told to have a reverential fear and respect for God and His WordJesus is so great and powerful that no one should ever deny or reject HimAs far as all of us are concerned, the most important thing is  ‘WHAT WILL YOU DO ABOUT JESUS? Ps53:1 states the FOOL hath said in his heart, There is no God...  DON’T BE A FOOL and spend eternity lost forever, in total regret and endless suffering! The decision is only yours to make, no one else!

Ac16:31 states Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved..’. Jesus warned ‘..but he that believeth not shall be DAMNED’ Mk16:16, and ‘..except ye REPENT, ye shall all likewise PERISH’ Lk13:3. Jesus said I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the KEYS OF HELL AND OF DEATH Re1:18. As Jesus created ALL THINGS, He also created HELL for SATANhis fallen angels 2Pe2:9, and for all those that reject His great plan of salvation. That is HOW GREAT JESUS IS! Amen!
